The course

A loop through
Boise at dawn

Boise summers run hot, so the Boise Marathon starts early β€” 6:04 AM, before first light fully breaks over the valley. The course rolls out from Payette Brewing while the air is still cool.

From there the route follows the Boise River Greenbelt out along one bank, crosses a pedestrian bridge around the halfway point, and returns along the opposite bank straight back to Payette Brewing β€” nothing steep, just shaded path and water the whole way. Aid, ice, and shade are staged heavier through those closing miles.

Start and finish share the same address, so there's no shuttle to catch β€” park once at Payette Brewing and you're steps from both the start line and the after-party.

Questions

Before you toe the line

Why does the marathon start at 6:04 AM?

Boise regularly hits the high 80s and 90s by early afternoon in June. Starting before sunrise gets the marathon field through most of its miles while it's still cool, and keeps the back of the pack off the course before the real heat sets in.

How do I get to the start line?

Start and finish are both at Payette Brewing, so there's no shuttle needed β€” park for free on-site and walk to the corrals.

Can I switch distances after I register?

Yes β€” transfers between distances are free until June 6. If you move to a shorter distance we'll refund the difference; moving up just costs the difference at your original pricing tier.

What's the refund and deferral policy?

Entries are non-refundable, but you can defer to the 2028 race for free until May 23, or transfer your bib to another runner until June 6.

What if it's dangerously hot?

We plan around the heat β€” early start, extra ice and misting stations, and a hard 12:34 PM course close. If temperatures spike beyond safe limits on race morning, we'll adjust the course or cutoff and notify every runner by email and text.

Are headphones, strollers, or dogs allowed?

Headphones are fine β€” keep one ear open on the shared road sections. Strollers are welcome in the 5K. Dogs love the Greenbelt but have to sit this one out.
